Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy: How Our Title Company is Fighting for Fair Housing

As a title company, we understand the importance of fairness and equality in the real estate industry. Martin Luther King Jr. fought tirelessly for these same values during the Civil Rights Movement. This MLK Day, we take the time to honor and reflect on the legacy of Dr. King and how his message still resonates in today’s society.

According to a 2018 survey by the National Association of Realtors, 21% of home buyers are non-white, with African Americans making up the largest percentage at 11%. However, despite this diversity in home buying, the National Fair Housing Alliance found that African American home buyers were shown and told about 12% fewer homes for sale than white buyers.

Dr. King, was an advocate for fair housing laws. His message of equality and justice continues to inspire us to strive for a more equal and fair housing market. As a title company, we are committed to ensuring that all of our clients have equal access to information and resources. We provide comprehensive education and resources to our clients to ensure they understand their rights and responsibilities in the home buying process. We also work closely with fair housing organizations to ensure we are up-to-date on any changes to fair housing laws and regulations.

One of the ways that we can make a real impact on the housing industry is by being an advocate for fair housing laws. As a title company, we can use our platform to bring attention to fair housing issues and help to educate others about the importance of equal access to housing.

One way to do this is by participating in fair housing initiatives and events. Many cities and organizations hold events and initiatives to raise awareness about fair housing and provide education and resources to the public. By participating in these events, we can help to spread the message of fair housing and work towards a more equal and just housing market.

In addition, we can also use metrics to track our own progress in ensuring equal access to housing. For example, we can track the diversity of our client base and set targets for increasing diversity in our business. We can also track how many fair housing complaints we receive and how we handle them to ensure that we are taking the necessary steps to address any issues that may arise.

Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that the fight for equality and justice is an ongoing battle. As a title company, we are committed to doing our part in creating a fair and equal housing market. On this MLK Day, we honor his legacy and work to continue his mission of creating a more just society for all.
